Homepages Are Receiving Less Traffic |
The homepage for most websites are meant to be the flagship of the entire site. Its suppose to command attention , inspire curiosity, provoke action. The homepage is where you make your first impression to the entire known world. When a person creates a website, statistics shows that a majority of the time spend during the creation process is on the homepage. Soon that will change, because as search engines become increasingly sophisticated and efficient at finding and indexing information, the homepages of most websites will become one of the least visited pages on a website.
The purpose of a search engine is to find extremely relevant information based on the search query of the user. The more accurate the search results, the higher the chance the user will use the search engine in the future. Thus search engines will do all they can to index up-to-date and highly relevant information, so that they can attract more users and keep their existing users. This is important to search engines because the more users that they have using there search engine, the more advertisers that they will get, thus the more money they will make. What does this have to do with you and your homepage?
As search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, MSNs Live search, and many up and coming ones begin to develop more sophisticated and powerful spiders and bots, the search engines will be able to index deeper and deeper pages hidden within websites. Not only will your websites homepage be indexed, but your all of your deeper pages, and even some pages that you didnt what people to find. All for the sake of increasing the profits of the search engines. Now with some of the major search engines pointing to all the pages of your website and ranking them for specific keywords, your entire site has as many entry points as there are pages. Your homepage isnt the only page with incoming traffic, now most of your incoming traffic is distributed evenly throughout the rest of your site. And when that happens, your homepage will start receiving less traffic when compared to other pages on your site.About AuthorVisit Stephan Smith s Internet Marketing Blog For More Free Internet Marketing Information: Stephan Smith Archives | Web Traffic
