Do yourself and your business a favour and really take some time out to think about what your target audience are looking for, yes you can place links on your website for all manner of businesses and it would be true to say that some of your website visitors will no doubt be interested in a vast array of goods and services, though to try to second guess them all is an impossible task, your main decision as to who to affiliate with is based around your own products and services and ensuring that you partner with like minded product and service providers that adds value to your own website and the user experience of your visitors. Giving up some of your prime web site real estate to the best possible partners is a key element for success when establishing your online affiliate network. You need to think like your customer, the bottom line is that you are giving up space on your site to earn money and improve the experience for your online customers, you cannot under any circumstances place ad hoc unrelated links on your website in the false hope of trying to make a few extra affiliate dollars as the backlash will no doubt result in lower sales, a decline in visitors and even worse lost customers.

So in order to maximise your web sites potential in this lucrative piece of cyber space, you must ask yourself the same questions any business owner needs to ask themselves at some stage of their business life cycle, who are my customers, what do they want, and how can I provide it for them?

Some affiliate programs such as niched services and/or products are not conducive to the target visitors of the majority of websites, unless you are in that particular niche, so look for affiliate partners who sell products and/or services that suit the requirements of just about everyones needs. You do not even have to place some large banner or other obtrusive design on to your web site to take advantage of an affiliate partnership, just by placing a discreet link to that affiliate will bring extra profits to your web based endeavours, the net result being far greater visitor satisfaction and far greater visitor loyalty for your own web site. Stay away from signing up to affiliate programs that are unrelated to your business or offer your visitors obscure products and/or services. There are many examples however of businesses that are needed by just about everyone, partner with an expert provider in these markets and watch the dollars role in, examples of which are graphic design and web design businesses, SEO consultancy firms, even Office Consumable companies, all of which are needed by just about every business. Naturally you need to take precautions when endorsing another companies good and/or services. Look at their web site and gauge what an impact their web site and business offering has on you, if it is positive then you are half way there.

Your affiliate programs need to be strategically aligned to the core values and interests of your business and your target customer base, this will undoubtedly produce greater results now and long into the future. The net result will be that your customer base and new visitors alike will gain a greater sense of loyalty to your web site, a strategy that is adopted by all savvy Internet entrepreneurs.
